I've spent my life learning what leadership really costs.
Twenty years building sales orgs across the Philippines and North America taught me how to win. What came after taught me why it matters. I'm Coach Jon... and this is the short version.
The road here
I built a career on speed. Then life slowed me down enough to listen.
For most of my career I was the growth guy. Building sales teams from scratch, opening new markets, leading 220 agents at Keller Williams in Fremont. If there was a number to hit, I found a way to hit it. That part came easy to me.
What didn't come easy was the bigger question underneath it. After thirty years in the U.S., I made the call to come home to the Philippines... and I made it fast, in about a month. New country, new life, rebuilt from scratch. That kind of decision forces you to get honest about what you're actually building, and who you're building it for.
I lost my father when I was eighteen. Now I'm raising three kids of my own, past that milestone he never got to see with me. That shapes how I think about leadership more than any deal I ever closed. Faith, family, legacy... those aren't slides in a deck for me. They're the whole point.
So the work I do now looks different from the work that made my name. I'm less interested in helping someone hit a bigger number, and more interested in helping them become someone their team, their clients, and their kids can be built on. Presence over performance... that's the whole shift.
The wins taught me how to lead a company. The losses taught me how to lead a life. I coach from both.
What I believe
The world doesn't need more bosses. It needs more builders.
Somewhere along the way I stopped measuring leadership by output and started measuring it by the people it grows. Here's where I landed.
Presence over performance
Anyone can hit a number for a quarter. The leaders who last are the ones who are the same person when no one is watching. That's presence, and it's the real work.
Stewardship, not status
A title just tells you what you're responsible for. Your team, your clients, your family... they've been entrusted to you. Leadership is taking care of what you've been given.
Character carries you
Strategy and skill open the door. Character is what keeps you in the room. I coach the person first, because everything they lead grows from who they are.
The bridge
Western confidence, Filipino heart.
I carry two things with me everywhere I coach. The boldness and meritocracy I learned leading in the States, and the humility and respect I grew up with as a Filipino. Most rooms are missing one or the other. I try to hold both.
There's a phrase I keep close... "Nakikita Kita." It means "I see you." Before I coach anyone on strategy or skill, I want them to feel that first. Seen, then stretched.
My real mission is bigger than any one leader. I want to help give Filipinos the voice and the share they deserve... to raise a generation of leaders with clarity and character.
